Seventh-day Adventism has always been about a group of believers who are looking ahead. We look for the Second Coming, for Present Truth and for the right kinds of lives we should live until it all comes to an end. But that forward thinking vantage point has many times made the current day feel pretty perilous. Many times, our reaction to uncertainty is to hold on even tighter to the things that have always seemed right. But is it possible that in tightening our grasp on the present, we might be hobbling our ability to hear what our listeners have to tell us? 

This weekend's series explores three audiences and how our message lands with each: our young people, the wider world around us, and each other as fellow members of the Adventist movement. How does our message resonate with a generation that's grown up inside it? How do we come across to the Evangelical and secular communities we live alongside? And how are we speaking to each other — does it advance the mission, or make it harder?

These questions can be uncomfortable. They can make us want to hold on tighter. But what if Adventism's next great step is the opposite — opening our hands and our hearts to actually hear what people are taking away from what we offer?
