Noah’s Ark is recognizable to most folks even if they’ve never attended church - it’s a cultural story that catches our attention. Most ancient civilizations around the world have a flood story that includes similar details, the gods destroying the earth and a small group of humans making it through the flood somehow and starting their lives over. A story of worldwide destruction - angry gods - human redemption and second chances - these are all themes that we are drawn to as humans. 

But what if the story of Noah is less about Noah and more about God? The profound statement in Genesis chapter six is that “God’s heart was filled with pain.” That pain made Him act as both destroyer of evil and rescuer of the weak. The world God had created was destroyed and a new one was born. We live in that new world but still hope in that same old God.
